Social media platforms are rapidly spreading the hashtag #adaywithoutimmigrants!!!!
February 14 is a significant commercial day that I am sure many celebrate because Valentine’s Day is celebrated. Tons of sales come from items relating to valentine’s day. As we might know, many buy candy, stuffed animals, flowers, arrangements, and restaurant sales are also high. Latinx individuals believe that many of these sales come from the immigrant community. Many if not all social media content creators have united to the hashtag #adaywithoutanimmigrant. This hashtag was created by immigrants and Latinx people to grab the attention of many to ask for a change. People are posting and making videos talking about the subject. The plan is to not consume anything on February 14 so that the government can see how much the immigrant and Latinx community contributes to this country. This hashtag has immensely grown thanks to how rapidly social media platforms move. Many news outlets are aware of this and have decided to talk about the issue. For example, Univision and Telemundo- Hispanic news chains have spoken about the subject already. Overall, the Latinx community is doing this, hoping for immigration reform. What do you think is going to happen? Are the community and media platforms strong enough to make this happen?
Check out this article that talks about TikTok star Carlos Eduardo Espina. Espina is the leader of this protest.

Hi, Marisol. It is so interesting how social media has become an effective platform for spreading awareness about and encouraging strikes in the hope of reform. I actually didn’t know about this hashtag going around, but I hope it gains more attention and significant steps can be taken towards immigration reform.
