 Where does the Latinx community stand when it comes to voting? Latinxs do not engage in politics for many reasons. In 2020 Latinxs were predicted to impact the 2020 presidential election significantly. During the election campaigns, some political campaigns in the state of Nevada turned to Latinxs with the goal of obtaining their vote. In her article, Calderon describes the Latinx community as a sleeping giant when it comes to voting. This means that Latinxs are known for not participating in voting.

To begin with, there is a considerable lack of representation in politics towards Latinxs. However, it was projected that in 2020 for the first time in history, Latinxs were going to be the largest racial and ethnic minority group to vote (Calderon, 2020). There are many reasons why Latinxs are not active in politics, like, language barriers, lack of information, lack of resources, and citizenship status. With this being said, it was confirmed that many Latinxs voted in the 2020 elections. Donald Trump lost Nevada with over 20,000 votes. It was also stated that Biden won thanks to many votes from the Latinx community. During the 2020 elections, a massive civic engagement from the Latinx community was experienced. It was also crucial to know that most civic engagements occurred through different social media platforms.

Many people are not content with this. The real question here is, why did he do this first? Beto O’Rourke stated that this was just another political stunt done by Greg Abbott.
